Week 14: Rivalry Week

Throw out the records! Paint your face! It's the last week of the regular season. It's Rivalry Week!
College Football Rivalry Week Recap – The Mirror

Week 14: Michigan at Ohio State, Texas at Texas A&M, Florida at Florida State. Rivalry Week is still the lifeblood of college football. Whether your team is playoff bound or not, a win this week makes a bad season palatable.

But First, Thank You!: The Tailgators Setup Podcast eclipsed 1K downloads this past week (see chart below). As you can see, the second season has been even better than the first.

We would like to thank all of you for listening and sharing and we hope you continue to check us out every week, especially as the first ever 12-team College Football Playoff begins next month.

The Drive…

1st Down: The SEC Implodes!

2nd Down: Where Does a 1-Loss Indiana Rank? Did they show enough against Ohio State to warrant a CFP spot if they take care of business next week against…?

3rd Down: The Big XII.

4th Down: Nick Saban’s Not Walking Through That Door. Should we re-evaluate the SEC in light of Saban’s retirement. Saban won 7 national championships from 2009-2020.

Extra Points: Are the Florida Gators the hottest team in college football right now? Back-to-back wins against LSU and Ole Miss, knocking each out of the CFP! Let’s give some love to Billy Napier.

Watch the Tailgators Setup Podcast on Substack:

John’s Game of the Week:

No. 3 Texas at No. 20 Texas A&M (7:30 PM on ABC)

This game could not only impact the SEC championship game, but also the CFP with an Aggies upset of the Longhorns.

Texas A&M are simply playing the spoiler in a rivalry that hasn’t been played in more than a decade.

Just For Men (#notsponsored) College Football Pick’em Challenge:

Brian and John win the week at 17-7, just one game in front of Gary and Week 13 guest picker

, 16-8.

That puts Gary and Brian in a dead even tie for the season, at 139-76, with John continuing to creep up at 135-80.

This week’s picks:

Gary’s Cocktails of the Week:

After the Tailgators work up a thirst with their picks, it’s time for a cocktail. This week, Gary’s mixing up two Texas-sized recipes in the shaker.

The Heisman Watch:

Can we give Penn State tight end Tyler Warren some love? Will he get an invite to New York?

He didn’t even get named as one of the finalists for the Biletnikoff Award — given annually to the “best receiver,” regardless of position?

Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan, Nick Nash (SJSU) and Travis Hunter (Colorado) are the three finalists. Seriously?

If only everyone felt about Warren like PJ Fleck:

Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy football every day, all day, and all night over the next few days!
