Week 9: No. 1 Texas Falls; Irish and Navy Showdown in the Meadowlands

Week 9: No. 1 Texas falls. And any other week, LSU vs. Texas A&M would be the game of the week. The SEC still has an embarrasment of riches, with Missouri at Alabama, and Oklahoma at Ole Miss in a must-win game for Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin?

But we’ve also got 1940s style football, with Navy and Notre Dame being the highlight in a Top 25 showdown!

Hut-hut!

Be sure to checkout John’s mid-season report on what we’ve learned so far.

1st Down: The teams with the best paths to the playoffs? The guys we discuss who we can expect to see come December.

2nd Down: Which SEC teams can make the playoff? And John admits to maybe overreacting to the beginning of his Gators’ season.

3rd Down: Tony Bennett head coach at Virginia retired this week. Bennett made a clear appeal to the NCAA about the state of college athletics. Will it fall on deaf ears? If it doesn’t, will we see the conferences break away from the NCAA?

4th Down: Penn State poll bias. As Brian predicted, a 1-loss Georgia leap-frogged an idle Penn State. Outkick’s Clay Travis, for what it’s worth, doesn’t even have the Nittany Lions in his Elite 12. We discuss the history of Penn State being treated unfairly in the college polls, and if it will impact Penn State’s CFP standing?

John’s Game of the Week:

Navy’s Blake Horvath has led the Midshipmen to a 6-0 record for the first time since 1979.

No. 12 Navy vs. No. 24 Notre Dame (Noon, ABC): A Top 25 match up in the Meadowlands with possible College Football Playoff implications. Does a 2-loss ND get eliminated from the CFP? Does a 1-loss Navy mean the Midshipmen get thrown overboard come playoff time?

The Just For Men (#notsponsored) Pick ‘em Challenge:

It was another week where Brian and Gary tied (16-6), while resident college football expert John was just one game behind (15-7). That leaves Brian still in front with a season record of 70-42, with Gary just behind at 68-44, and John lurking at 64-48.

Who will be sporting the black beard?

This week the guys pick each game involving a Top 25 team, and our favorite OVER/UNDER teams, Iowa and James Madison University.

Gary’s Cocktails of the Week:

Gary McDaniel is Irish, but not an Irish fan. But this week he’s **shaking** up two delicious cocktails for us to enjoy while we settle in on the couch to watch Notre Dame and Navy do battle in the Meadowlands.
