Week 3: Welcome to the Tailgators Setup Podcast and another week of college football. It’s a lighter schedule as far as Top 25 match-ups is concerned, but if last week is any indication, that doesn’t mean we won’t have some close games and possible upsets (looking at you Notre Dame).
John, Gary and Brian are here to break down the week that was and look ahead to what we can expect to see this week. Hut, hut.
Four Downs:
1st Down: Irish Go Down. Even if Notre Dame wins out, is that enough to make the CFP after its loss to Northern Illinois? Next: @ Purdue
2nd Down: Is it Georgia, Texas, Ohio State, Alabama and everyone else? Ole Miss, Missouri, Tennessee? The SEC has 6 teams in the top 8?
3rd Down: Close Calls: Penn State v. Bowling Green, Alabama v. USF, Oklahoma v. Houston, Oklahoma St. v. Arkansas. Is NIL money thinning the ranks of teams?
4th Down: Who’s lurking and we aren’t talking about? USC, Louisville, Arizona State Boston College and Washington. Any a threat to make the playoffs?
John’s Game of the Week:
20 Arizona at 14 Kansas State (Friday 8 p.m. on FOX).
Arizona looked good in its opener against New Mexico but struggled last week against N. Arizona. Meanwhile, Kansas State (-7.5) had its own close call last week against Tulane. This is an important Big 12 match-up taking place early in the season.
The “Just For Men” (#notsponsored) Pick ‘em Challenge:
Listen and play along with the guys as they pick winners for this week’s upcoming games. Remember, the loser must dye their beard Ryan Day Black for one podcast at the end of the season.
This week, Brian breaks up with Kentucky and he’s OVER Iowa too!
Current Standings:
Brian (15-10), John (14-11), Gary (13-12)
Heisman Watch:
Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty had another big week (192 yards, 3 TDs); and Texas’ Quinn Ewers impressed leading the Longhorns to a road win against Michigan. Cam Ward, meanwhile, continues to put up nice numbers (304 yards passing, 3 TDs, 0 INT) for the Miami Hurricanes.
Gary’s Cocktails of the Week:
